Written Content and Editorial Storytelling

I work with organisations, teams, and individuals to create and shape written content that is clear, engaging, and purposeful. This work is offered as a commissioned service, and can involve either creating original stories from scratch or providing editorial storytelling support to refine existing material.

My background in long-form writing and journalism-informed editorial work means I focus not just on words, but on structure, flow, and meaning, helping stories land with impact.

What I Do

Editorial Storytelling Support

When content already exists, I provide editorial guidance to:

  • Clarify the core story and key messages

  • Improve structure, pacing, and flow

  • Identify what to cut, expand, or reposition

This may involve hands-on editing or structured editorial notes that allow you or your team to act confidently.

Strategic Editorial Input

I also help clients:

  • Define narrative direction across multiple pieces

  • Maintain consistency of tone and voice

  • Align editorial content with wider organisational goals

Creating Stories from Scratch

I write original content, including:

  • eBooks and guides (long form)

  • Interview-based stories and profiles

  • Journalist live reporting at events

This work begins with understanding your audience and purpose, then researching, structuring, and writing a story that feels coherent, engaging, and authentic.

How I Work

  • I start by understanding purpose, audience, and context

  • I identify the narrative spine of the content

  • I shape structure and emphasis to support clarity

  • I refine until the story feels focused and complete

Some words from clients…

  • "Paul is a pleasure to work with! Efficient, kind and always very professional. Great with content, organised and gets things done! Excellent focus in helping people tell their stories to get their brand across in a clear and concise way."

    —Sandie McCoubrey

Director of Membership – Meetings & Events Support Association

  • "Paul has been a fantastic support during the past few years as we've adapted our content approach to include the development of virtual and hybrid alternatives in the events industry. He has provided blog content that has been well-received and well-positioned to answer the questions of our audience and made an intimidating subject for some event professionals very accessible."

    —Laura Jensen

    Reed Travel Exhibitions

  • "Paul is a great writer and has invaluable knowledge of the events industry. He is easy to work with, adaptable and always meets deadlines. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a high quality, reliable content producer!"

    —Taline Jones

Head of Marketing and Content, Eventsforce

  • "It was great to work with Paul Cook when asked to write what would have been a dry book on auditing. His suggestion of using a storytelling approach gave it interest, structure and made it very readable. The book was launched in Dallas, Texas at a major conference and won its place in the Institutes bookstore with younger auditors particularly drawn to its approach. Paul was easy to work with, full of ideas and creativity and helped ensure we did not miss the editorial deadlines."

    — Sue Jex

Director, Business Risk Services, Grant Thornton
